Sharad Yadav congratulates Ahmed Patel on winning RS poll

Victory despite ‘toughest hurdles’ JD ’s Sharad Yadav congratulates Congress leader Ahmed Patel

He was dismissed for allegedly writing to the returning officer of the Gujarat Assembly without authorisation and appointing an election agent for polling in the state, PTI reported.

Yadav's message comes in the backdrop of reports of the lone JD (U) MLA in the Gujarat Assembly, Chhotu Vasava, voting for Patel, notwithstanding the fact that his party is in a coalition with the BJP in Bihar. Reportedly, the blame for fallout in JD (U) is on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who dumped the idea of Opposition's Grand Alliance or mahagathbandhan last month and joined hands with the BJP.

JD-U leaders started targeting Yadav since last week after he spoke out against Nitish Kumar's decision to embrace the Bharatiya Janata Party.

On Tuesday there was suspense about who the JD (U) MLA had voted for. On Wednesday, Karamsi was one of the eight MLAs the party expelled for anti-party activities. The JDU's general secretary in Gujarat Ambalal Jadhav too said Mr Vasava had voted for the Congress candidate. State Congress president Bharatsinh Solanki said the party is also studying the option of initiating legal action against them to bar them from contesting elections for six years.

While Bosky, who is also the NCP's Gujarat unit president, remained incommunicado, NCP general secretary Jagdishchandra Dafda claimed that Bosky voted for the Congress, as per the whip issued by party supremo Sharad Pawar.

Yadav was referring to the Congress beating the BJP in one of the seats after the Election Commission rejected the votes of two dissident Congress legislators. Our support is Ahmed Patel, he also said. Even after Vaghela's resignation, Patel was in touch with him on the phone regularly, and had gone to his home a week ago, the source said. Tyagi openly declared that the vote was for the BJP.
