Scott struggling on day two at PGA Champs

Day, the 2015 PGA Championship victor and runner-up a year ago, had dropped a shot on day two but a stunning tap-in eagle at the par-5 seventh hole at Quail Hollow preceded three consecutive birdies as he raced to a five-under-par total.

DeLaet followed up his eagle on No. 14 with an eagle on No. 15, making up four shots to par in just two holes.

Matsuyama, whose 64 on Friday is tied with Francesco Molinari's total on the same day for the best round of the tournament, gave two shots back with a 73 in the third round.

"I was grateful for the rain delay because I was getting exhausted", Matsuyama said.

"But I haven't been spot-on all week, and the worries I had about my swing showed up today in the way I played".

"I think what was making me exhausted was I wasn't hitting my driver like I wanted to".

"I hope I can be back (at the press conference) after the final round".

Matsuyama, the pressure of an entire country on his shoulders, said he did not know whether he would be nervous over the weekend. He was three-over for the second round with three holes left before he parred 16th and 17th and birdied 18th. "Now I'm in a dogfight tomorrow and I have to be prepared for that". He chipped down to a foot and tapped it in for his par.

The PGA Championship victor at Whistling Straits two years ago shot a 66 and was two shots behind.

PICK A WINNER: The winner of this tournament has come from the final pairing of the final round in 18 of the last 20 years.

Recent hard work tweaking his swing is paying off. I literally said, 'I'm done. "Hitting fairways are key".

One of the good things of the day was that some of the things that I worked on with Vijay (Divecha) sir worked out, like attitude on the golf course.

Kevin Kisner and Hideki Matsuyama grabbed a share of the lead at the US PGA Championship, but a rain delay forced the second round to carry on into Saturday.

"What I did today was definitely a confidence boost", Thomas said. Disappointing would have been going home after two days. Of the 75 golfers who made the cut, 42 made pars, 30 made bogeys, three made double bogeys ... and nobody made a birdie.

Friday's heavy rain softened the Quail Hollow course significantly, and the changes were evident when play finally got back under way. American Chris Stroud is best placed among those yet to complete the round, five-under with five holes left.
