Notes From The Phillies' 3-1 Win Over New York

Steven Matz gave up two runs in 5 2/3 innings

Aaron Nola struck out eight batters and allowed one run in seven innings to beat the Mets 3-1 on Saturday.

Steven Matz (2-6, 5.54 ERA) tossed 5 2/3 innings for NY, striking out one and surrendering two runs, both earned, in the bottom of the fifth inning. NY improved to 33-15 at Citizens Bank Park since the start of the 2015 season, which includes wins in all five meetings at Philadelphia this year.

Mets second baseman Neil Walker was traded before the start of the game to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Matz's slump continued in a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, when he was reached for five runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Luis Garcia picked up his second save of the season for the Phillies, pitching two-thirds of an inning in the ninth. Ricardo Pinto worked himself into trouble with a pair of walks, but blew a 98-mph fastball past Cespedes on an 0-2 pitch to finish the inning. But the remainder of the Mets lineup was silent against Aaron Nola and the Phillies' bullpen - Amed Rosario had the team's only other hit.

Mets starter Steven Matz almost matched or bettered Nola, taking a no-hitter into the fifth.

But the Phillies answered in the bottom of the fifth inning when Cesar Hernandez singled home Nick Williams to tie the score 1-1.

Matz (2-6) left after 5 2/3 innings, allowing just the four hits with two walks, two runs and one strikeout.

Odubel Herrera went 1-4 with a single.
