One of the FBI's 10 Most Wanted Fugitives, who was accused of a 2011 killing in New Jersey, was arrested in Virginia, authorities said.

Gomez, a Honduran native with is in his late 20s or 30s and was in the USA illicitly, is associated in the passing with Julio Matute in Plainfield in May 2011.

Walter Yovany Gomez is wanted for his alleged involvement in the murder of a man in Plainfield, New Jersey, in May 2011.

"The apprehension of Walter Yovany Gomez is a prime example of the close coordination between the vigilant public and the hard working men and women of law enforcement", Gallagher said. His age is unclear.

On May 8, 2011, the pair struck Matute in the head repeatedly with a baseball bat, cut his throat and used a screwdriver to stab him in the back 17 times, the Federal Bureau of Investigation charged. Gomez is a notorious alleged gang member who was indicted four years ago.

Gomez is believed to affiliated with the gang MS-13, as was his victim Julio Matute. The co-conspirator was subsequently apprehended, charged and found guilty for the Matute homicide.

Gomez - a Honduran citizen who was in the USA illegally - was placed on the most-wanted list in April 2017.

Gomez is being charged with a violent crime in aid of racketeering.

Back in July, President Donald Trump visited Long Island, New York, where MS-13 have been linked to 17 murders since January 2017, and called the gang out for turning "peaceful parks and lovely quiet neighborhoods into bloodstained killing fields". "They rape and they rob", Trump said. In April, Jeff Sessions traveled to Long Island where he vowed to take the group down and linked it to the administration's broader policies on illegal immigration. Almost 500 fugitives have been apprehended or located since, with 160 of them resulting from citizen cooperation.

A $100,000 reward had been offered for the arrest of Gomez, who was considered armed and unsafe.
